“SHALL WE TAKE A TRIP DOWN PENNYBRIDGE LANE……..”

AS you may know, we have an active Supporters Club here at Trafford FC.

Our Supporters Club aims are to promote the club in the local community and further afield. To support the Manager and the players, to raise funds for worthy initiatives, help the Football Club committee when required, and to organise events that add to the amazing feeling you get from being part of Trafford FC.
One of our aims is to improve the matchday experience for spectators. This summer we have kick-started our long-term goal of improving Shawe View by buying and installing a new PA system. Our next project is a whole lot more ambitious……. to build a stand at the Pennybridge Lane end.
Currently a grass bank, the end adjacent to the old William Wroe Golf Course is the only side of our lovely little stadium to not have any cover. The founding fathers and mothers of Trafford FC constructed the simple but effective and somehow beautiful black steel / grey cladding and green seats of the three stands we have. We’d like to keep to this theme, provide something that completes the venue, and stops those supporters who watch from that grass bank getting rained on and slipping on the grass!
The Club has been receptive to our plans. We are not naïve and we know it’s a big job. We see the work being carried out in two phases over the next two to three years: Phase 1 to lay the concrete terracing; Phase 2 to provide the steel/cladding enclosure.
We believe that amongst us we can find enough people with the skills, the know-how and the technical ability to deliver this project. About 5 years ago Matt Brown headed a team of supporters who constructed the concrete steps behind the home dugout. A similar project, admittedly bigger and with the added complexity of a roof, is surely not beyond us.
So what might it look like? Well, it’s early days but some initial sketch ideas have been produced. These have yet to be tested in terms of design, planning and ground regulations, and of course cost. They are subject to change, but this is the sort of thing we are looking to deliver.
We now wish to appeal to you, Trafford Supporters, readers of this article and other interested parties, to contact us and offer what help & assistance you can, no matter how small it may seem. You may be able to help with the design drawings / specifications; You may be able to acquire materials at reasonable rates (NOT anything that fell off the back of a lorry please!) You may have the muscle required to actually build the thing. Whatever it is, give us a shout and we’ll add you to the growing list of participants in this amazing project, what we are calling the “Long Term Project”.
If you’re interested in helping, please speak to Andy Glinka, Matt Brown, Kev Burke or Pete McGrath. You can email us on traffordfcsc@gmail.com or DM us on Twitter @TraffordFCSC
Come to our next meeting which is on October 14th at Flixton Conservative Club on Chassen Road (the other end of the stadium!) at 7.30pm. We look forward to welcoming you!
