Trafford continued their pre-season preparations on Tuesday evening, travelling to North West Counties League side Cheadle Heath Nomads.
Despite a glut of first half chances for Trafford, only Mike Burke’s fortuitous 23rd minute free kick separated the two sides. Burke’s attempt hit a defender and spun up & over the Cheadle keeper to land in the back of the net. That was the only goal of the game, although it was not through lack of chances. Trafford players Dorney, Hazeldine, Sheridan and Worrall all had good opportunities to score as the visitors largely dominated. Alfie Belcher was perhaps the biggest culprit when his unmarked header from 8 yards sailed over the bar.
Nomads improved in the second half, creating three or four of their own chances. The pace of the game continued at a high-level, and Trafford again blooded a number of youngsters and trialists. The game was much more even, but Trafford looked the more likely. Matty Barlow drove from centre midfield in the 65th minute and hit a fine shot that Cheadle’s keeper met with an equally fine save; Trafford's Dimitrious Rami made a number of cunning and skilful runs, but no further goals were scored and it ended 1-0. Danny Caldecott's team are back at Shawe View this coming Saturday when the visitors are Warrington Rylands, kick off 3pm.
