Trafford produced a superb defensive display to earn a point in their re-arranged NPL West Division fixture at Avro on Wednesday night.
The sides had originally met on Boxing Day when the game was abandoned after an hour with Trafford leading 2-0. And the visitors cause was made all the more difficult by the absence of skipper Harry Norris, midfielder Matty Morgan and striker Rio Clegg.
Despite those issues, Trafford started confidently, playing with great composure and patience but failing to trouble their former keeper Grant Shenton.
Avro gradually gained control of the game with their first attempt on goal arriving in the 20th minute when a snapshot by Liam Ellis was comfortably held by Sam Booth.
Three minutes later Ellis should have given his team the lead when he seized upon a half-clearance but shot wide from just ten yards.
Booth then saved a 30 yard drive from Jack Morrow and as half time beckoned Trafford dominated, Matty Lusakueno stepping inside an Avro defender but seeing his goal-bound shot headed off the line by Sam Rathbone.
Jerome Wright struck an angled drive just wide of the far post, Ryley Smith’s thunderous shot was parried by Shenton and the half closed with Wright blasting a volley from the left that was unfortunately straight at the Avro keeper.
The second half started with a flurry of needless yellow cards for the visitors, Jack Higginbottom, Sean Higgins and Jerome Wright all finding their way into the referee’s notebook
A low cross by Avro right back Dominic Smalley was nudged wide by AJ Warburton and Sean Higgins produced a great block to deny Jake Cottrell.
Matty Lusakueno saw another effort deflected wide and shot straight at Shenton following good work by debutant Kevin Spinelli.
Avro substitute Benito Lowe fired wide from 30 yards as Trafford carelessly gave the ball away and with five minutes remaining Sam Booth was troubled for the first time when he saved at the foot of the post to deny Lowe.
Trafford substitute Toba Obitayo bravely blocked a shot by Jake Cottrell as Avro poured forward in the closing minutes but the visitors defence held firm with Jordan Fagbola, Jerome Wright and Sean Higgins all outstanding.
Karl Marginson’s side are now faced with two home games in the space of four days, Nantwich Town coming to the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium on Saturday, kick off 3 p.m., before the visit of Stalybridge Celtic on Tuesday night, kick off 7-45 p.m.
