The sending off of Hanley full back Alex Morris in the 56th minute proved to be the turning point as Trafford came from behind to win 2-1.
The visitors were well on top in the opening stages with Jack Dorney seeing his attempted chip deflected wide and Town centre back Joel Stair slicing the ball over his own crossbar following a fine low cross by Aaron Fleming.
In the 32nd minute and completely against the run of play, the hosts took the lead when Matty Cooper parried a low drive from 20 yards and Kyle Blake reacted first to pounce on the rebound and knock the ball into the bottom corner.
Town keeper Kieran Harrison pushed a Jack Dorney flick just past the upright and the first half ended with home winger James Lawrie curling a shot past the far post.
The game erupted in the 56th minute when Trafford’s Saj Elhassan made a great run down the right and saw his goalbound shot handled by Morris. After a lengthy delay and much protestations by the home side, the player was red carded and Jack Dorney coolly placed the resultant penalty past Harrison and into the top corner.
This appeared to galvanise the ten men of Hanley and both Joel Stair and the ouitstanding Ryan Shotton went close with headers before, in the 77th minute, Trafford manufactured the winner.
Full back Matty Morgan made yet another of his trademark runs down the right flank and fired in a low cross that fell to Saj Elhassan who cracked the ball into the top corner.
Morgan himself went close with a curling low drive past the far post following a short corner but Trafford held on comfortably for a victory that moves them up into seventh place in the Northern Premier League West Division.
