Late heart-break for young Trafford team

Karl Marginson’s young Trafford side suffered a late heart-break on Saturday when an 89th minute winner gave an over-physical Chasetown side the points at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium.
With six players having departed the club since ex-boss Danny Caldecott moved to Clitheroe a fortnight ago, Marginson drafted in seven players from the club’s Under 21 side, three of whom made the starting line-up.
On a day where the unveiling of a new stadium sponsor - Away Day Care - underlined a changing of the guard for Trafford, Marginson's new-look side made an impressive start with some neat, attractive possession football, young Matty Lusakueno making some great runs down the left and linking superbly with Damola Sotona.
Harry Norris saw his low drive cleared off the line and the visitors were resorting to some rough arm tactics as they sought to repel the Trafford attacks, home striker Eddie Survets a particular target and on the end of several nasty tackles from behind.
In the 21st minute, and with their first meaningful attack of the game, Chasetown took the lead, home keeper Brad Rose bundling John Atherton to the ground following a long ball out of defence and Jack Langston stepping up to coolly convert the resultant penalty.
A great move in the 27th minute ended with Ally Brown cracking a drive that appeared to be blocked by a defenders hand but Trafford’s vehement appeals for a penalty fell on deaf ears and shortly afterwards a push on Rob Worrall was also ignored.
Three minutes into the second half Chasetown thought they had doubled their lead when Marvellous Onabirekhanien netted after a free kick rebounded off the left hand upright but Trafford were relieved to see the assistant referee’s flag raised for offside.
In the 56th minute Trafford were finally rewarded for their enterprise with the equalising goal, Rob Worrall swinging over a corner from the right, Matty Lusakueno rising to power a header goalwards and Eddie Survets reacting first to force home the rebound.
Both teams pushed forward in search of the winner, Chasetown’s Max Dixon heading a corner from the right over the crossbar and Ally Brown whistling a drive inches wide of the far post.
In the 85th minute Lusakueno produced another piece of magic to bamboozle his opposing full back and cross to the back post where Ally Brown completely mistimed his header from just six yards.
Four minutes later disaster struck for Trafford when a cross was swung in from Chasetown’s right and Jack Langston arrived to expertly guide his glancing header past Brad Rose and inside the far post.
Despite the backing of a crowd of just under 500 Trafford were unable to recover from this setback and so fell to a narrow defeat that sees them slip to the bottom of the Northern Premier League West Division.
However, they can take great heart from an excellent performance that saw them end the game with six players from their Under 21 squad on the pitch.
The Manager was the first to pay tribute to this progress, and took pressure off Trafford's youngsters by putting the defeat down to technical errors in the game plan. Karl Marginson said: "I think we’ve moved forward. I didn’t expect it to be honest.
“I want to stop saying this quite soon, we need to get the just rewards for our work rate, endeavour and the good football that we’re playing. (But) I’m sure it will come.”
It could come as soon as this Tuesday, when Trafford entertain Nantwich Town at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium, kick off 7-45 p.m., before travelling to play Witton Albion on Saturday.
