Margy's Magnificos Maul Macken's Men

Trafford produced an absolutely magnificent performance on Saturday to thrash Witton Albion 4-0 and give new manager Karl Marginson his second win in the space of four days.
Marginson was forced to make just one change to the side that had beaten Nantwich Town on Tuesday, Abet Zazai replacing two goal hero Matty Lusakueno who was unavailable due to a hamstring injury.
Witton, managed by ex-Manchester City striker Jon Macken, came into the game full of confidence having defeated league leaders Kidsgrove Athletic in their last outing.
The opening minutes were end to end with the hosts being awarded several free kicks much to the anguish of the visiting supporters.
Gradually Trafford settled to dominate the game, the midfield trio of Danny Lambert, Scott Kay and Rob Worrall assuming control, and they took the lead in the 29th minute when Worrall and Zazai worked a short corner on the right, the ball was crossed to the back post and Harry Norris headed into the path of Mike Burke who fired home from eight yards.
Debutant Zazai was catching the eye with some superb skills out on the left and he was unfortunate to see his goal-bound shot deflected wide after a mazy run took him past three defenders.
In the 36th minute Trafford struck again, Eddie Survets neatly controlling another Rob Worrall corner, this time from the right, and planting a firm drive into the bottom corner from 15 yards.
Marginson’s men were playing some superbly composed possession football and Survets and Worrall both went close to increasing their lead before Scott Kay sealed the points in the 76th minute, rounding off another incisive move down the right with a clinical finish past Ollie Martin from the edge of the penalty area.
Such was Trafford’s dominance that Witton had to wait until the 82nd minute for their first chance on goal, substitute Jon Pritchard firing over following a weak punch by Trafford keeper Brad Rose.
That chance apart, it was all Trafford, and their appeals for a penalty when substitute Tom Beckett was pushed over were turned down before right back Ally Brown surged forward on one of his trademark runs and cracked a shot that was pushed past the post by Martin.
Four minutes into stoppage time Mike Burke struck again to round off the scoring, firing in a free kick from 25 yards that Ollie Martin somehow allowed to slip through his hands.
But this was no less than Trafford deserved having produced some breath-taking football underpinned by sheer hard work and a tremendous team spirit.
Marginson specifically praised the team’s application since he took over and said the victory, and his first clean sheet as Trafford’s manager, were the rewards. He said: “From minute one to minute 90 everything they’d been asked to do was carried out to the letter. I couldn’t be more proud.”
However, just as the Marginson has been calm despite difficult results, he was not getting too excited speaking after this game. “That won’t happen every week”, he said.
But if they can replicate this form over the next few games Trafford will undoubtedly move up the league table and could even push for a play-off spot.
