Defensive mistakes gift league leaders the three points

Trafford’s young side gifted league leaders Prescot the three points with some naive, weak and careless defending that saw them fall to their heaviest defeat of the season.
Karl Marginson’s team made a confident start, playing some neat, possession football in front of a crowd of over 1100.
However, in the 9th minute Cables showed their pedigree when danger-man Jack Goodwin unleashed a rocket of a shot from 25 yards that Brad Rose brilliantly tipped over the crossbar.
From the resultant corner, the hosts went close again when the ball fell to skipper Liam Howlett who stabbed his shot inches wide from 15 yards.
In the 14th minute the hosts took the lead in controversial fashion when a high ball was played into the Trafford penalty area and Goodwin rose to head home although he did appear to impede Brad Rose as he attempted to catch.
Seven minutes later, and with Trafford temporarily down to ten men as Damola Sotona received treatment, Cables struck again when Tony Donaldson was allowed to feed Kyle Sambor who made no mistake from eight yards.
Despite these setbacks Trafford played with great composure and pulled a goal back in the 26th minute when Tom Beckett rounded off an excellent move with a magnificent drive from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.
Marginson’s men were now right back in the game and playing some lovely football and in the 33rd minute they almost snatched an equaliser when Mike Burke smashed a free kick inches over from the left side of the penalty area.
Four minutes before the interval disaster struck for the visitors when Cables striker John Murphy skipped past Kwame Osigwe and was tripped by Danny Lambert, James Foley coolly side-footing the resultant penalty past Brad Rose to make it 3-1.
The second half was just two minutes old when Cables struck again to virtually seal the points, Trafford full back Sotona slipping out on the left and James Devine taking a quick throw in that allowed John Murphy to fire past Rose.
Trafford still refused to lie down and continued to play some neat football, manager Marginson introducing two more teenagers to the side in substitutes Oli Irwin and Jack Donohue.
Irwin went close with a volley that was deflected behind by a defender and Harry Norris twice saw his headers fly wide from Rob Worrall corners as Trafford sought a way back into the game.
Worrall curled a free kick inches past the upright with Cables keeper Mitchell Allen rooted to the spot but in the 72nd minute Trafford were undone once more when Sam O’Halleron ghosted past Osigwe and pulled the ball back for James Foley to rifle a shot into the roof of the net.
Mike Burke struck a low drive from 25 yards that was held by Allen but the game ended with Cables almost making it six when Luke Pritchard dispossessed Sotona but Brad Rose blocked his shot with his legs.
Speaking after the game, Marginson accepted at least four of Precot's goals were down to individual errors, but also acknowledged the scale of the task his team had in front of a large crowd and against the league's form team.
Trafford will be desperate to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host Kidsgrove Athletic at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium, kick off 3 p.m.
