Trafford extend unbeaten run to four games with hard earned point at Avro

Trafford extended their unbeaten run to four games with an extremely hard earned point at fourth placed Avro on Boxing Day.
Manager Karl Marginson was forced to make two changes to the team that had defeated Hednesford on Saturday, Hilal Khan and Matty Wolfenden replacing the retired Danny Lambert and injured Niall Cummins.
Despite these changes, the visitors started brightly on the synthetic surface and created the first attempt on goal in the 8th minute when Mike Burke cracked a 20 yard drive that was comfortably held by ex-Trafford keeper Grant Shenton.
Avro then began to get on top with Kyle Hawley breaking through in the inside left channel and firing a low shot that was held at full length by Sam Booth.
Booth then blotted his copybook with a weak kick but his defence came to his rescue with two brave blocks to thwart Max Harrop and Hawley.
It was now all Avro with Trafford guilty of some careless and sloppy passing , Harrop firing straight at Booth, Ethan Kershaw heading wide from a great position and then Liam Ellis half-volleying over from just inside the penalty area.
The hosts remained on top for most of the second half but Trafford were defending brilliantly with the centre back pairing of Harry Norris and Jordan Fagbola in imperious form.
Sam Booth once again showed his class with saves to deny Kyle Hawley and Sean Etaluku and Trafford stunned their opponents in the 70th minute when they broke away to take the lead, Hilal Khan sending in a low diagonal cross that was neatly turned in by Eddie Servuts.
Avro introduced substitute Jack Anderton into the action and in the 76th minute he shot over with Booth stranded.
However, four minutes later he made amends for that miss when he slipped past Damola Sotona down the right and coolly placed his angled drive inside the far post and past the gallant Booth.
Avro sensed victory and pushed players forward but Trafford continued to defend with great determination and resilience and with Scott Kay bossing the midfield with a calm and confident display they held on for a point, the hosts only half chance coming in the 91st minute when a Bebeto Gomes shot was parried by Sam Booth.
Trafford are next in action on New Year’s Day when they entertain Mossley at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium, kick off 3 p.m.
