Resolute Trafford extend unbeaten run
Trafford hold league leaders Leek
Trafford extended their unbeaten run last Saturday to seven games, with a 0-0 draw versus Leek Town at Shawe View
Both sides went into the encounter at opposite ends of the table with Leek sitting on top spot having scored 10 goals in the last four games without reply.
Trafford, although just above the NPL relegation zone, came into the game unbeaten in six games winning two along the way.
Leek started the game on top with two clear-cut chances in the first 20 minutes which were not taken as Trafford rode their luck at times. Goalkeeper Sam Booth was again confident and commanding.
Staying tight and compact at the back, Trafford began to grow into the game and probed the visitor’s defence as the first half unfolded. Striker Eddie Servuts and winger Damola Sotona had half-chances, but nothing to seriously test Leek goalkeeper Dino Visser
The game’s intensity began to increase just before the half time whistle as both sides were not shying away from strong tackles. Two yellow cards were given out by the referee in quick succession, one for Trafford’s Scott Kay, the other for Leek’s Tom Scully as tempers flared going into the interval.
The second half did not see too many clear opportunities for either side. Leek were very physical and pressed high to attempt to catch Trafford out, but the hosts were very confident in possession. The last 10 minutes saw both teams pushing for a winning goal as the game became end-to-end, but neither side could find the back of the net. Although a 0-0 draw, it was an entertaining afternoon with a crowd of over 500.
The result sees Trafford remain one place above the relegation slots, but in a good run of form that if maintained should see them ultimately avoid the drop. Karl Marginson’s men will be looking to turn draws into victory in their upcoming away fixture at Chasetown on Saturday 20th January.
