0-4 reversal in the Midlands

Trafford suffered a chastening defeat at Chasetown in their latest Northern Premier League fixture yesterday (Saturday 20th January).
Karl Marginson’s team went into the game on the back of a 7-game unbeaten run, but were hampered in their preparations for the game by being unable to train properly due to the weather.
The opening phases of the match were fairly uneventful, both teams testing each other out. It was clear that the home side were gaining the ascendancy, but Trafford’s recent good form has been built on a solid back four and the excellence of goalkeeper Sam Booth, who’s work was again impressive. Chasetown found a way past the Trafford rearguard however just five minutes before the interval when Danny Glover reacted first to a loose ball in the box and stabbed it home for 1-0. Trafford almost replied immediately when good work on the left by Jerome Wright and Damola Sotona resulted in Sotona’s angled drive being kept out by the right foot of Chasetown goalie James Wren.
Trafford displayed plenty of endeavour in the opening 15 minutes of the second half, Eddie Servuts particularly working hard to find an equaliser, but the game went away from Trafford when on the hour mark, Ally Brown sliced a cross into his own goal to give the home side a 2-0 lead. Glover got his second of the game just four minutes later, and just 8 minutes after that Chasetown’s Jayden Campbell completed the scoring.
All that remained was for Marginson’s men, roared on as ever by their vocal travelling supporters, to try and get a consolation.
Servuts was again at the forefront of these endeavours, supported by substitutes Tom Beckett, Hilal Khan, and Eoin Hogan - but it was not to be. Boss Margy will be looking for a return to his side’s recent good form when Stalybridge Celtic visit the AwayDay Care Shawe View this Saturday 27th January at 3pm.
