Trafford were brought crashing back down to earth on Saturday when they were thrashed 4-0 by Nantwich Town in their Northern Premier League West Division fixture.
Manager Karl Marginson fielded the team that had performed so admirably the previous week in defeating Newcastle Town but on this occasion his side vastly underperformed.
Nantwich were on top from the start with Paddy Kay twice firing over from the edge of the penalty area before taking the lead in the 8th minute when Kai Evans cracked a 20 yard drive past Sam Booth via the underside of the crossbar.
Two minutes later the hosts struck again with Trafford once more carelessly losing possession and allowing Byron Harrison to net from close range.
In the 15th minute the Dabbers found themselves three up with Trafford in total disarray, Kai Evans breaking clear to coolly place his shot into the bottom corner.
Trafford were being totally outplayed on an artificial surface that the home team were obviously accustomed to and Kai Evans struck a curling drive that was brilliantly tipped over by Sam Booth before Byron Harrison headed just wide following a cross from the left.
In the 37th minute Town keeper Ben Garratt was called into action for the first time, easily gathering a low drive from the edge of the penalty area by Tom Beckett and the first half closed with Trafford skipper Harry Norris heading a Rob Worrall corner wide of the upright.
The second period began slowly with Trafford introducing substitutes Scott Kay, Jerome Wright and Mike Burke in the 55th minute and for the first time in the game the visitors enjoyed some meaningful possession.
A Tom Beckett drive was pushed past the post by Garratt and at the other end Sam Booth produced another fine save to thwart Byron Harrison.
In the 74th minute Mike Burke curled a free kick from 25 yards around the Nantwich defensive wall but Garratt superbly tipped his effort around the post.
A Tom Beckett shot was deflected onto the crossbar shortly afterwards but in the 82nd minute Trafford conceded possession once more in midfield, Town broke away and Byron Harrison had a simple tap in to give a final score of 4-0.
Thankfully for Trafford, results elsewhere went their way and they are still eight points clear of the relegation zone but they will have to perform far better than this if they are to avoid being dragged back into the dogfight at the bottom of the league.
