Basement side 1874 Northwich produced a spirited and determined display to hold Trafford to a 2-2 draw at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors, winless in 21 games, wee unfortunate not to take the lead in the 12th minute when a cross from the left was headed against the crossbar by Michael Ibeto.
Eight minutes later the home fans were stunned when Trafford skipper Harry Norris slipped when attempting to intercept a long ball out of defence and Isaac Noble strode forward to clip the ball past Sam Booth and into the bottom corner.
Jerome Wright flighted a free kick from 25 yards just over and Trafford levelled in the 36th minute when Tom Beckett gained possession out on the right and curled a magnificent drive into the opposite top corner.
Just sixty seconds later Trafford struck again, Kanye Nisbett feeding Matty Lusakueno who cut in from the left and fired home via the chest of Northwich defender Ewan McGeady.
Trafford were now in the ascendancy and on the stroke of half time Jerome Wright almost made it three with a volley from 15 yards that flew just over.
The home side were confident of seeing out the second half and securing a much needed win but they were stunned once more in the 53rd minute when a speculative shot from 25 yards by Oliver Partington saw Trafford keeper Booth get a hand to the ball but not enough to keep it from entering his goal.
Northwich keeper Michael Shorthouse tipped a Rob Worrall free kick past his upright and then saved bravely to thwart Kanye Nisbett.
Tom Beckett fired over as a left wing corner was only half cleared and Matty Lusakueno brilliantly skipped past two defenders but was once again denied by a superb save by Shorthouse.
At the other end Sam Booth produced a fine reflex save to keep out a Matthew Fenton header and in the 85th minute a thunderous drive from 25 yards by Northwich’s Chris McCann grazed the right hand post.
An entertaining game came to a close with Trafford disappointed not to collect the three points but Northwich perhaps deserving a point for their enterprise and endeavour.
Karl Marginson’s side lie four points clear of the relegation zone but now face two tough games over the Easter period with a trip to Bootle on Good Friday followed by a home fixture against Avro on Easter Monday.
