Trafford’s woeful home form continued on Saturday when they were thrashed 4-0 by Witton Albion, a result that keeps Karl Marginson’s four points outside the relegation zone whilst the visitors occupy the fourth play-off spot in the NPL West Division.
Trafford went into the game on the back of a superb 2-1 victory at Vauxhall Motors but were penned back from the start with Elliott Rokka squandering an early chance for Witton when he fired wide from 15 yards.
An overhead kick by home midfielder Chris Rowney flew harmlessly wide and Niall Cummins shot straight at Danny Roberts as Trafford pushed forward but they were punished for slack defending in the 25th minute when Tom Pope swivelled neatly and shot into the bottom corner to put Witton 1-0 ahead.
Ben Harrison headed a right wing corner just wide and Trafford keeper Sam Booth produced a brilliant reflex save to thwart Joe Duckworth as Witton sought a second goal and the first half ended with Pope volleying past the left hand upright following another cross from the right.
A 25 yard drive by James Lawrie in the 50th minute was deflected wide as Witton continued to dominate after the break and they were rewarded for their superiority three minutes later when Trafford failed to clear a deep free kick allowing Matty Lowton to rifle home from ten yards.
Marginson’s side twice survived vehement appeals for a penalty as Witton continued to tear the home defence apart and in the 74th minute Joe Duckworth brilliantly skipped past Ally Brown and advanced to place the ball past Sam Booth and make it 3-0.
Six minutes later the impressive Brandon Newell, so dominant in midfield, completed the rout when Trafford carelessly conceded possession and he blasted his low shot into the far corner from 15 yards.
This defeat means that Trafford have won just one of their last eight home games and have conceded ten goals in the last three. However, second from bottom Hednesford Town have also been losing and with just two games remaining that four point cushion should be just enough to save Trafford from relegation.
On Saturday Trafford make the journey to Kidsgrove Athletic before hosting Prescot Cables at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium the following week, both games kicking off at 3 p.m.
