Trafford ended their six game winless run with a stunning 3-2 victory over high flying Chasetown, Rio Clegg’s 97th minute penalty earning the points for Karl Marginson’s team.
The hosts shaded the opening stages, Cian Donohue firing straight at visiting keeper Curtis Pond in the 8th minute following good work on the right by Ryley Smith and Matty Morgan.
Trafford keeper Sam Booth blocked a low drive by George Cater shortly afterwards and then Chasetown’s veteran defender Kris Taylor made a last ditch clearance as Rio Clegg won a challenge with Pond.
The visitors were in control as half-time approached, Danny Glover heading just wide before they took the lead two minutes before the break, Oli Hayward neatly converting a header from eight yards following a cross from the left.
Joe Dunne’s effort from 15 yards was deflected wide five minutes after the re-start as Chasetown sought a second goal whilst at the other end Jordan Fagbola just failed to direct a left wing corner goalwards.
In the 62nd minute manager Marginson introduced substitute Kanye Nisbett to the action and he made an immediate impact when he collected a Rio Clegg pass on the right and advanced to unleash a great angled drive from 25 yards inside the far post.
Trafford’s Jerome Wright made a brilliant last-ditch tackle to thwart George Cater but was powerless to prevent Chasetown retaking the lead in the 75th minute when Joe Thompson volleyed in at the back post.
Substitutes Josh Wood and Matty Lusakueno were brought on as Trafford sought a way back into the game and in the 87th minute Rio Clegg wriggled through three challenges but saw his shot deflected wide.
In the 90th minute Trafford levelled with the best move of the game, working the ball neatly down the left flank and switching the ball to the right where Wood drilled a cross in to the near post for Lusakueno to head powerfully home.
Roared on by their fanatical supporters, Trafford pushed forward in search of the winner but the game appeared to be heading for a draw when, in the 7th minute of injury time, Kanye Nisbett broke down the right and was scythed down by Joe Dunne.
Referee Roots had no option but to award a penalty, Rio Clegg stepped forward to coolly place his spot kick past Pond and the final whistle seconds later signalled an incredible victory for the boys from Shawe View.
Trafford are in action once again at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium this coming Saturday when second placed Congleton Town are the visitors, kick off 3 p.m.
