Trafford produced yet another super-resilient, backs to the wall performance to earn three points on Tuesday night and move up into fourth place in the NPL West Division table.
The defensive triumvirate of goalkeeper Sam Booth and centre backs Harry Norris and Jordan Fagbola were magnificent throughout showing once again the form that has helped Trafford to that lofty position.
Karl Marginson’s side started brightly with Rio Clegg seeing his fifth minute shot blocked on the line and Damola Sotona firing into the side-netting a minute later.
Witton began to take control with some neat football and Kyle King rifled an angled drive just past the far post from 25 yards.
In the 25th minute Trafford left winger Matty Lusakueno burst into the Witton penalty area and was tripped by Ollie Hitchcox. Rio Clegg stepped forward to take the resultant spot kick but was denied by a superb save by Ellis Allen.
At the other end a quick break and low cross by Elliot Rokka was met with a first time shot by Mamadou Djabi but Sam Booth saved brilliantly at point blank range.
Rokka then fired against the foot of the post as Witton dominated and a rare attack by the visitors in the 35th minute ended with Allen producing a great reflex save as Damola Sotona’s shot took a wicked deflection.
Sam Booth parried another shot by Elliot Rokka in the opening minutes of the second half and Rio Clegg blasted inches wide from 20 yards before the breakthrough finally arrived in the 56th minute, Witton failing to clear a right wing corner and Jordan Fagbola coolly driving inside the left hand post from 15 yards.
The remainder of the game saw Witton piling forward in search of the equaliser and Trafford repelling everything that was thrown at them.
Elliot Rokka headed straight at Sam Booth from eight yards and the under-fire keeper then produced a fabulous save to thwart a snapshot by Harry McGee.
The siege continued deep into injury time with Witton substitute Kevin Spinelli cracking a rasping drive from the edge of the penalty area that whistled past Booth’s right hand post in the 95th minute.
Time ran out for the hosts with Trafford delighted with their sixth victory on the road and hoping to make that seven when they travel to Stafford Rangers on Saturday.
