Trafford turned on the style in a dominant second half performance to overpower basement team City of Liverpool in front of a bumper crowd of 508.
There was little goalmouth action in a scrappy and disappointing first half, the first attempt at goal coming in the 11th minute when Astley Mulholland’s free kick from just outside the penalty area was easily held by Trafford keeper Sam Booth.
At the other end Trafford recent signing Kevin Spinelli fired high and wide from 15 yards and a Jerome Wright free kick from the left was met by a Harry Norris header that was comfortably saved by City keeper Conor Robson.
In the 39th minute the game at last sprung into life when Rio Clegg found himself in acres of space on the right, cut inside to skip past keeper Robson, and slipped the ball home from the tightest of angles.
City were on top in the opening minutes of the second half and thought they had equalised in the 48th minute when Andy Owens volleyed into the bottom corner from 15 yards. However, the assistant referee thought otherwise and disallowed the goal for offside.
Two minutes later Trafford doubled their advantage when a slick move down the right ended with a Cian Donohue cross to the back post where Matty Lusakueno arrived to plant his header past Robson.
Brad Byrne headed straight at Robson from a great position before City equalised in the 55th minute with a sensational goal, Xenon Bahula cutting in from the right and crashing a magnificent curling drive from 25 yards that flew into the opposite top corner.
Rio Clegg saw his shot deflected wide in the 61st minute and was instrumental in creating Trafford’s second goal just three minutes later when he was played through by Byrne, fired against the advancing Robson with the ball falling kindly to Matty Lusakueno who coolly netted from 10 yards.
Lusakueno should have completed his hat-trick shortly afterwards but sliced his shot well wide when clean through and Kevin Spinelli was equally at fault when he too poked the ball wide with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Substitute Toba Obitayo glanced a header wide and Rio Clegg crashed a shot against the crossbar as Trafford threatened to run riot and the fourth goal duly arrived in the 85th minute when a Hilal Khan free kick from the left was headed home by skipper Harry Norris.
This victory keeps Trafford handily placed just six points outside the play-off positions in the NPL West Division although they now face two tough away fixtures at Vauxhall Motors and Newcastle Town.
