A hard-fought and physical encounter ended with honours even in front of a magnificent attendance of 704 at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium.
The visitors took the lead in spectacular fashion after just three minutes when Chinedu Uche rifled an unstoppable drive from 20 yards into the top corner.
At the other end a weak header by Toba Obitayo was easily held by Town keeper Greg Hall and the visitors should have made it two in the 10th minute when Jacques Etia broke clear but was denied by a brave save at point blank range by Sam Booth.
Town continued to dominate and Booth pushed a long range effort by Fenton Green past the post before Domaine Rouse fired over from the edge of the penalty area.
Green and Rouse both fired wide as half-time approached and the home supporters were further frustrated by yellow cards for Sean Higgins and Rio Clegg for innocuous looking challenges.
The second half began with both teams giving the ball away repeatedly and home manager Karl Marginson introduced substitutes Ryley Smith and Hilal Khan in an attempt to bring greater cohesion to his team’s play.
And within minutes that bold move paid dividends as Khan played a neat one-two with Rio Clegg on the right before releasing Smyth who neatly stepped inside a Town defender and fired past Hall and into the bottom corner.
Trafford were now in the ascendancy and in the 74th minute Brad Byrne fizzed the ball across the face of the Town goal but Rio Clegg just failed to convert.
Clegg’s appeals for a penalty following a push by a Town defender fell on deaf ears and referee Hanson’s inexperience showed once again in the 88th minute when he cautioned manager Marginson for alleged dissent.
Two minutes into injury time there was more controversy when the referee adjudged Rio Clegg to have fouled a Town defender and brandished a red card much to the exasperation of the home players, management and supporters.
A scrappy, physical and disjointed game came to a close with a draw perhaps a fair result but this was yet another match in which the standard of officiating was called into question.
Trafford now face two games on the road, travelling to play Atherton Collieries this coming Saturday before making the short journey to Wythenshawe FC on March 15th. Both games kick off at 3 p.m.
