Trafford extended their unbeaten run to five games on Easter Monday with a hard earned point from an entertaining game at the Away Day Care Shawe View Stadium.
The hosts were on top in the opening stages with Hilal Khan particularly dominant in the centre of midfield although they failed to create any meaningful chances to test Avro keeper Grant Shenton.
In fact it was the visitors who went closest to taking the lead with Liam Ellis glancing a header wide and home keeper Sam Booth pushing a Brandon Barker effort past the upright.
Booth then held a 25 yard effort from Geffry Ebhote at the second attempt and Avro winger Malakai McKenzie just failed to connect with a low cross to the back post.
Trafford stormed ahead on the half hour mark when a quick break out of defence saw Brad Byrne feed Rio Clegg, and when Clegg’s low drive was blocked by Kane Hickman, Ryley Smith followed up to clip the rebound past Shenton with consummate ease.
Six minutes later Smith should have made it two when he sped past Hickman but elected to pass across the face of goal instead of shooting and the first half ended with Trafford’s appeals for a penalty following a trip on Smith fell on deaf ears.
Ben Woods curled a shot wide as Trafford sought a second goal in the opening minutes of the second half whilst at the other end Liam Ellis broke clear down the right but screwed his shot horribly wide.
Substitute Matty Lusakueno was introduced and immediately made his presence felt with several darting runs and in the 61st minute Ryley Smith fired wildly over from the edge of the penalty area.
Rio Clegg struck a superb swerving shot just past the right hand post and then fed Lusakueno who broke clear but poked his shot past the far post.
Both teams were pushing forward in a superbly entertaining finale and in the 84th minute Avro substitute James Dwyer headed a right wing corner inches over the crossbar.
Two minutes later disaster struck for Karl Marginson’s men when Avro’s Oliver Putnam gained possession 22 yards out and struck a fierce low drive that flew past Sam Booth and nestled in the bottom corner.
Avro sensed that a win was on the cards and in the 88th minute Harry Bunn flashed a drive inches over before being denied five minutes into added-time when his log range effort was brilliantly tipped past the post by Booth.
The point gained means that Trafford are 8th in the NPL West Division but they face an intriguing last day battle at Widnes on Saturday when a victory could prevent their opponents from becoming league champions.
